Are People in Multiracial Families Allowed To Be Racist

If you’re in a multiracial family does that give you license to be racist?

Check out this article for a story about that and then write me back and let me know what you think:

You Get a Pass: Do People in Multiracial Families Have a License to be Racist?

No some people do think they have a membership card and can say what ever. That will not fly with me. My family is African American American Indian American Mexican and white American.

I couldn’t find your article, Alex, but my vote is NO. Noone should have a racist pass. No one should encourage racist comments. No pass. No go. Nada!

It goes to show you how the issue of race can make people incredibly awkward and uncomfortable. If anything, I’ve found that people who are biracial and/or who are in an interracial marriage are much more likely to talk openly and comfortably about race-related issues.

Being biracial (Mexican & White) and being in an interracial marriage with a biracial man (who’s Black and Mexican), people have said things like this to me too. I’ve asked people who have made comments like your friend did to clarify what they mean. They normally can’t properly express what it was they meant, which has actually led to some pretty profound, honest conversations about race.

To answer your question, NO ONE deserves a pass to be racist and judge others based on outward appearance. Call me crazy, but I prefer to judge people on the content of their character rather than the color of their skin (shout-out to MLK, Jr.!)
