What Are You?

What are you?

My wife is Black.  I’m White.  Our son is both.  Or neither.

What are you?

My wife and I are an interracial couple.  Our 3-year-old is biracial.  Our family is multiracial.

What are you?

I was born Jewish.  My wife converted to Judaism.  Our son, like me, was born Jewish.

What are you?

Race is a group of people with the same physical and genetic traits.  Race is an artificial construct.

What are you?

Religion is a set of beliefs based on the actual word of God.  Religion is tribalism and a set of beliefs meant to keep the general populace in line.

What are you?

My wife, my son, and I are part of the growing number of multiracial families.

What are you?

We are people who just want to be happy.

What are you?

Exactly!! We are just a family that wants to be happy! My husband and I are an interracial couple with a blend family, one interracial child, and in the process of adopting two Caucasian siblings (I want able to conceive again after our son was born). I am African-American and my husband is Caucasian but we have such a diverse mix throughout our family tree that just about every race except for Asian is represented. We love the diversity but those on the outside try to put us in a box, I think, for their own comfort and understanding of their world. Thankfully there is no box that can contain our family!! 🙂

Thanks for your blog; my mother has shared it with me on s couple of occasions and I have you say that it is nice to connect with others who understand.
