Tales of a Middle-Aged Man #71: Walking to school in the rain

Dear Ivan:

As you know, today it is raining. And, therefore, our walk to school this morning involved having to walk through that rain. As usual, you did not want to wear the necessary garb. Not sure why. However, let me say that while it is true that when swimming, we do get wet, and it is fun, the same cannot be said for walking in the rain.

Indeed, getting soaking wet while walking in the rain is not fun, not fun at all. That’s why there’s an entire industry devoted to keeping people dry when it’s raining.

So, while I do agree that umbrellas are cumbersome and in the way, raincoats, hats, hoods, waterproof boots, and other impervious materials intended to keep you dry are not stupid, but strategic allies.

So, excuse me if I look like I’m getting dressed to walk on the moon, but I don’t want to spend the next hour huddled by the radiator, trying to dry off.

Love always,

Daddy
