Being a Dad Means: Part IV

Written by Alex on October 31, 2013 - 0 Comments

Being a parent is great.  It’s also tough stuff.  But, ultimately, it’s a journey that you go on with your child wherein you learn a lot about your child, the World and yourself.

In this last week, this is what I’ve learned:

1.  Being a dad means I don’t have need for a safe word. But if I did, it would be “khakis”

2. Being a dad means having a to-do list that always includes the entry “apologize, even if not sure why.”

3. Being a dad means knowing that there are 2 fateful dates in your future – the day your son decides he wants to kick your ass, and the day he can actually do it.  (Luckily for dads, these days generally do not coincide)

4. Being a dad means understanding that money isn’t everything, but also understanding that no one in the family wants to hear your bullsh*t philosophy

5. Being a dad means you might not know how to fix something (or anything), but you still know that repairman/contractor is full of sh*t.

6. Being a dad means you can never let anyone know that bugs creep you out too.

7. Being a dad means having to stay ever-vigilant because mommy is determined to throw out your favorite pair of socks and boxers shorts.
