Being a Dad Means: Part 16

What I’ve learned about being a dad in the last week:

BEING A DAD MEANS #16

1. Being a dad means that every snowfall is immediately followed by the great “Yes, you have to wear boots” debate.

2. Being a dad means your biggest fantasy is to star in the tv show “Father Knows Best.”

3. Being a dad means realizing at least once a day that you’re gonna make some parenting mistakes, but you just won’t know how bad they were until it’s much too late to do anything about them.

4. Being a dad means realizing that it’s his childhood, not yours.  So sometimes you have to be the adult even when that’s no fun.

5. Being a dad means that every time you read a tweet or news story about some dumb celebrity, you think, “what do I have to do to make sure my kid doesn’t do that?”

6. Being a dad means remembering that as scary as the world is for you, it’s even scarier for someone who’s 3 feet tall, weighs 35 pounds, has no money of his own, and has limited language skills.

7. Being a dad means that the most exciting part of your day is when you first come home, and the least exciting is two seconds later when you realize how much you’re supposed to do.
