Ten Lessons for My Son From Nelson Mandela

Today is February 11.  It is the anniversary of the day that the late, great Nelson Mandela was released from prison after 27 years.

As we all know, Mandela then went on to become a World leader and an exemplar of how to live life and make a contribution to this life and this World.

He is incredibly inspirational, and on this day, it’s worth considering some of the lessons he taught us.  I’m particularly inspired to impart these lessons to our 3 year old son.

Whether Mandela would put it this way, here are some lessons I take away from his life:

1. Devote yourself passionately to what you believe in.

2. Never give up.

3. Do not hate your adversary.

4. Listen, listen, listen.

5. If they won’t come to you, go to them.

6. Lift others up

7. Maintain your dignity

8. Admit your mistakes

9. Have Morgan Freeman play you in the movie about your life.

10.  Then, have Idris Elba play you in the next movie.
